Description
When grinding aluminum, the risk of sparks is relatively small. However, if dry aluminum dust is left in a receptacle and sparks (of, for example, steel dust) are added, the risk of ignition of the aluminum dust or of a dust explosion is very high. This is because a chemical reaction occurs between the dry steel dust and aluminum dust. In short, this must be performed explosion-proof. This means that a filter with explosion hatch, anti-static filters, complete earthing of the extraction table and extraction unit must be used. If the explosion hatch cannot be placed close to an outside wall, a flame arrester must be used.
Instead of the above (usually expensive) option, you can also use a wet scrubber as a filter unit. As a rule, an 'empty' extraction table is then taken and a wet scrubber is added as extraction unit by means of piping. Due to the large space that this occupies, the Airbench downdraft table is extremely suitable because of its compact construction.
The operation of the wet washer is as follows:
The dust particles in the contaminated air supply (intake air) are brought into contact with water to bind them and thus increase their weight and size (particle size). The centrifugal action of the wet scrubber separates these dust-laden water droplets from the airflow and returns them to the bottom of the unit, where the particles settle and form a sludge.
Construction of Downdraft Table WB
- Industrial design
- Filter Housing: welded sheet metal 2 mm.
- 3 mm steel perforated top (dia. 4 mm)
- Finishing: Powder coating RAL 7035 (light gray)
- Can carry 150 kg as standard, but can carry up to 500 kg on request
- Second mist filter for final water removal
Advantages of downdraft table WB compared to a standard downdraft table
- No filter elements required
- The safest solution when handling flammable / combustible substances
- Universal applications; you can process steel, aluminum and stainless steel together on the same downdraft table
- Easy to move
- Plug & Play

Depending on the application, there are many down draught and cross draught (Vertex) systems you can choose from. The type of dust, smoke or vapour will define the selection of the required filter efficiency of your downdraught bench.
